Crews Extinguish Hazmat Trailer Fire

PRESS RELEASE

On Wednesday, May 11, at 6:55am, Kittitas County Fire District 7 firefighters were dispatched to I-90 Eastbound MP 84 for a reported vehicle fire with hazardous materials inside. Crews responded and arrived on scene to find a trailer brake fire. Crews quickly knocked down the fire, and upon inspection inside the trailer it was found there was no fire extension inside. The trailer was hauling Polyurethane Laminate and barrels of Acetone, a highly flammable liquid. Fortunately, crews were able to prevent the materials from igniting, ultimately preventing a large scale incident and closure of I-90. One lane of I-90 was shut down during the incident, but was reopened after approximately one hour.

Cle Elum Fire Department provided mutual aid for the incident as well.
